Dying Light 2

Diving into the top issues impacting Dying Light 2 players from launch.

Dying Light 2 Stay Human has made its console and PC debut, submerging players in a world ravaged by a zombie outbreak, leaving humanity fighting for survival. Techland's latest sees the same fundamentals as its predecessor return, including brutal, first-person combat and a fluid parkour system, now present in a richer open-world sandbox. While factions pose a danger around every corner during the day, nightfall raises the stakes with overwhelming hordes.

While promising hundreds of hours of content, the title has launched with a handful of known bugs and issues, as detailed in our Dying Light 2 review. The day-one patch made sweeping changes to the game, reportedly eliminating over 1000 bugs, but players still report issues on all platforms. We're rounding up some of the top problems and workarounds so far.

Techland addresses Dying Light 2 launch issues

Dying Light 2 Stay Human developer and publisher, Techland, has issued a statement in response to current launch issues. The company has acknowledged early feedback, stating it first hopes to address issues with co-op connectivity and various in-game items. While no timeline was provided on fixes, we expect further updates over the days ahead.

We'll update this post upon further updates around the launch and planned fixes.

Top Dying Light 2 bugs and launch issues

Dying Light 2

Dying Light 2 launched on Feb. 4, and while the subject of generally favorable reviews, critics have criticized a slew of bugs and issues present in the final game. We're seeing some game-breaking technical flaws, plus substandard polish, with players already taking online to share their experiences with the title. We're rounding up some of the issues affecting players so far, including official word from Techland, plus potential fixes and workarounds.

Flickering and black screen flashes

Display issues appear to be among the most widespread impacting Dying Light 2 players at launch, with black screens and flickering present, especially on console versions of the game. Community discussions imply PlayStation 5 versions are the worst impacted, leaving the title unplayable for some users. While a temporary workaround isn't currently available, we're expecting this issue to be addressed quickly via a future patch.

Poor performance on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC

Dying Light 2 has launched with mixed performance on all platforms, as detailed in reviews in the leadup to launch. Xbox and PlayStation versions of the game may exhibit poor performance, including low FPS drops, stuttering, and screen tearing, even on the newest Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 systems. Some PC players may also experience performance issues, despite meeting the expected system requirements.

Those on PC should ensure their system meets the minimum or recommended requirements, with graphical settings on par with their PC's respective capabilities. We also recommend lowering your video settings to preserve those additional frames if encountering issues with performance on PC.

Can't connect to online friends

Dying Light 2 featuring integrated cooperative multiplayer, allowing players to bring friends into a shared open world. However, as the norm with any major video game launch, server issues have arisen in the early hours following release. While your mileage may vary, don't be surprised if online connectivity isn't slick through the opening weekend. Techland has also acknowledged "disconnects in co-op mode," with work on fixes assumedly underway.

Techland also advises players to complete the Prologue, demanding around two hours of playtime, before attempting to play through friends. The company's support page states players must reach the "Markers of Plague" quest, which unlocks multiplayer support.

Dying Light 2 won't launch on PC

While issues related to starting the game can stem from various factors, Techland has published a dedicated support page for those experiencing issues on PC. The company states broken or missing .DLL files are a common culprit, issuing steps to download the respective files, via Microsoft. Other causes could include conflicting programs or hardware-related issues. We recommend visiting the Techland support page for additional guidance.

Preorder items missing

Some Dying Light 2 players state their preorder items are unavailable following the game's launch. Techland has acknowledged issues with items, which seemingly include preorder cosmetics and supplementary content, with an official fix assumedly on the way.
